On June 4 , 2024 , the General Directorate of Food Control of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Turkey issued the Draft Guidelines for the Implementation of the Measures for the Administration of Nutritional Claims on Food. The core contents of the document include :

( 1 ) Purpose: The purpose of this guideline is to help food companies to properly use nutrition claims in food labels, publicity, display and advertising to ensure that consumers receive accurate information and avoid being misled;

( 2 ) Scope of application: Applicable to nutrition claims used in food labels, publicity, display and advertising;

( 3 ) Basic principle: Nutritional claims on foods must be clear, not misleading, and presented in a manner that is understandable to the average consumer;

( 4 ) Nutrition claim conditions: Nutrition claims must meet specific conditions and the corresponding nutrients must be found in the natural ingredients of the food;

( 5 ) Equivalent statement: You may use equivalent expressions that do not change or strengthen the original meaning;

( 6 ) Evaluation methods: There are three different evaluation methods based on the sales form of the food and the way consumers consume it;

( 7 ) Evaluation of nutrition claims: The evaluation of nutrition claims is based on the nutrient reference values of the food and takes into account the portion size of the food;

( 8 ) Nutritional information: Except in certain circumstances, all products with nutritional claims must include nutritional information;

( 9 ) Comparative nutrition claims: comparisons can only be made between products of the same name in the same category and must meet specific conditions;

( 10 ) Restrictions on certain nutritional claims: For example, a " no added sugar " claim has specific conditions, such as no monosaccharides or disaccharides may be added to the food;

( 11 ) Compliance Deadline: For new regulations not explicitly provided for in the Turkish Food Code Nutrition Claims Regulations, food companies are obliged to comply by June 30 , 2025 .
