On June 13 , 2024 , the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Agency issued Notice No. 293-24 , approving the amendment to the infant formula food standard (i.e. Proposal No. P1028 ). The main contents of the amendment include:
( 1 ) Formulate and revise the definitions of formula for older infants, premature infants, and foods for special medical purposes for premature infants;
( 2 ) Revise the regulations on the use of product nutrition claims;
( 3 ) Some new safety and health indicators have been added, such as the aluminum content in infant and older infant formula should be less than 0.5 mg/kg , and the aluminum content in special medical purpose infant formula for premature infants should be less than 0.2 mg/kg, etc.;
( 4 ) Add some new categories of nutrients that are allowed to be used. This amendment will take effect from the date of publication in the Australian Federal Gazette, with a transition period of 5 years.
