On August 9 , 2024 , the Korean Ministry of Food and Drugs ( MFDS ) plans to expand food nutrition labels to all processed foods . Main content:

  ( 1 ) Expand nutrition labels to all processed foods. Nutritional labels such as calories, sodium, sugar, fat and protein are currently only applicable to 182 types of food. It is planned to add 30 types of food such as ice cubes, chewing gum, steeped tea, etc. , and expand the scope of application to 259 types of processed food;

  ( 2 ) Expand high caffeine content labeling that previously applied only to liquid foods to solid foods using guarana. Starting from 2026 , foods containing guarana as raw material and with a caffeine content greater than 0.15mg/kg must carry a high caffeine warning label and total caffeine content;

  ( 3 ) Expand the label scope of sugar alcohol precautions. Products using sugar alcohols as the main raw material are expanded to products with a sugar alcohol content of more than 10% . The type and content of sugar alcohols should be clearly marked and bear the "sugar alcohol" mark. And display the warning statement near the material name mark line and distinguish it from the background color;

  ( 4 ) Frozen foods that are consumed individually, such as ice cream, do not meet the labeling requirement of "Do not refreeze after thawing".
