Argentina Revises Codex Alimentarius

On August 15 , 2024 , the Argentine Secretariat of Health Quality and the Secretariat of Bioeconomy issued Joint Resolution No. 9/2024 to amend the Argentine Food Code and update the list of additives used as carriers of vitamins and other nutrients in infant formula. It also explains the specific ingredients, definitions and labeling requirements for infant formula milk powder, which will take effect from the second day of publication in the official gazette, with a transition period of 180 days. Main content:

  ( 1 ) Modify the definition, classification and nutritional content index requirements of infant formula milk powder;

  ( 2 ) Formula milk powder must meet the following requirements: gluten-free, no added fluoride (the content in ready-to-eat products shall not exceed 100ug/100kcal ), lead content shall not exceed 0.01mg/kg , and arsenic content shall not exceed 0.05mg/ kg, etc.;

  ( 3 ) Formula milk powder can only contain food additives in the following concentrations: Thickener: guar gum ( 0.1g in liquid formula containing hydrolyzed protein), etc.; Emulsifier: Lecithin ( 0.5g , all types Formula), etc.; acidity regulators, antioxidants, packaging gases, etc.
