On October 17 , the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety ( MFDS ) of South Korea issued Notice No. 2024-62 to amend the "Regulations on Functional Labeling of Foods, etc. That Are Not Considered as Improper Labeling or Advertising". The main contents of this modification are as follows :

  1. Formulate requirements for food functional raw materials: Functional raw materials added to food need to be proven effective through human application tests; they must be added in accordance with the required proportions; manufacturers of functional raw material ingredients must obtain HACCP or GMP certification.

  2. The inspection method for functional ingredient labels can adopt prescribed inspection processes and methods; the detection value of functional ingredient content should be at least 80% of the value indicated on the label ; the content of functional raw materials or ingredients shown on the label must be maintained until the shelf life , at least 6 months from the date of production or import ;

3. Labeling items required for functional labeling of ordinary foods include: content of functional ingredients, maximum daily intake, statement that "this product is not a health functional food", statement that the product cannot be used for disease prevention or treatment, if A statement that in the event of adverse reactions, you need to stop taking it and consult a specialist.
