On August 15 , 2024 , the Philippine Food and Drug Administration issued an announcement to formulate a codex standard for older infant formula and infant products ( CXS 156-1987 ). The specific contents are as follows :
( 1 ) Definition of terms, defining the names of infants, older infants, etc.;
( 2 ) The revised version shall apply in addition to, and to the extent consistent with, existing national laws, including the registration, labeling and advertising of subsequent formula or milk supplements and children's products. A Certificate of Registration ( CPR ) should be obtained before selling, importing, and distributing products ;
( 3 ) Guidelines for follow-up formula milk powder for older infants and young children, stipulating the standards for adding energy, protein, fat, vitamins, minerals, and taurine, DHA , choline, inositol and other substances. All substances must not be ionizing radiation. No added condiments;
( 4 ) The specified limits of contaminants are in line with the General Standard for Contaminants and Toxins in Food and Feed ( CXS 193-1995 );
( 5 ) Hygienic conditions are stipulated to comply with the "General Principles of Food Hygiene" ( CXC 1-1969 ), "Hygienic Code of Practice for Infant Formula Powder", etc.;
( 6 ) Specifies container and labeling requirements. Health claims on nutritional baby foods are prohibited and the source of protein should be clearly shown on the label;
( 7 ) The analysis and sampling methods comply with the relevant provisions of ( CXS 234-1999 ) 14 ;
( 8 ) The feedback period ends on August 30 , 2024 .
