Indonesia plans to implement new food labeling requirements

   On November 27, 2024 , the Indonesian Drug and Food Control Bureau ( BPOM ) required the mandatory use of the packaging front-end label to mark the "nutrition value" system for sugar, salt and fat ( SSF ) content in related foods , and stipulated that sugar, salt and Maximum level of fat content.

  This grading system divides food into four levels: " A , B , C , D ". C and D grade products should indicate their "nutritional value" level and the total sugar, salt, and fat ( SSF ) content per serving or per packaged food . The first phase of the regulation will apply to ready-to-eat and non-alcoholic beverages and will be implemented in December 2024 . Once mandatory and fully implemented, the regulations will have a significant impact on packaged foods and non-alcoholic beverages exported to Indonesia. The final regulations will be announced before January 2 , 2025 , and the review deadline will also be January 2 , 2025 .
