On December 3, 2024 , the Ministry of Health of the Dominican Republic ( MISPAS ) issued a draft provision for the Nutritional Warning Label ( EFAN ) before pre- packaged foods .

　　The provision mimics similar systems in other Latin American countries, requiring the use of an "overdose" warning label when nutrients such as sodium, sugar and fat are too high, and the use of a "contain" warning label when sweetener is contained. The regulations clarify the specific standards for judging "excessive" or "contains", and specify the size of the label based on the packaging size. The implementation period is 18 months, and an additional 6 months of implementation time is given to allow the use of supplementary labels or stickers. The main contents are as follows:

　　( 1 ) Label location: The EFAN tag must be placed on the main display panel of all pre-packaged foods;

　　( 2 ) Nutritional information: The EFAN tag will indicate information about energy, sodium, sugar, total fat, saturated fat, trans fat and sweetener;

　　( 3 ) Warning label design: EFAN will be presented in a black octagonal border with white capital letters;

　　( 4 ) "Excessive" or "Contain" tag standards: EFAN tags will be determined based on specific nutrients or ingredient content;

　　( 5 ) Label size: The size of the EFAN tag will be determined based on the area of the main display panel of the packaging;

　　( 6 ) Implementation period: An 18 -month compliance period will be provided, and an additional 6 months of implementation time will be given to allow the use of supplementary labels or stickers.
