Australia updates import conditions for imitation chocolate in dairy products

On September 11 , 2024 , the Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry ( DAFF ) revised the import conditions for imitation chocolate in dairy products . The import of imitation chocolate that meets the following conditions does not require an import license from the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry:

  ( 1 ) Imitation chocolate does not contain cocoa or cocoa butter, but is identical to chocolate in appearance, composition, consistency and intended use;

  ( 2 ) Excludes chocolate-flavored foods and beverages, chocolate-coated products, or products containing chocolate and other ingredients;

  ( 3 ) The goods must be commercially prepared and packaged chocolate, and can be proved by the manufacturer's statement, invoice or food label; the goods must be clearly identifiable and meet biosecurity conditions;

  ( 4 ) Upon arrival in Australia, these goods must not be distributed, sold or used for animal consumption, environmental purposes (including use as bioremediation products or fertilizers), planting purposes, or veterinary treatment.
