Alginic acid will preferentially bind with soil heavy metals and passivate them; alginic acid adsorbs soil cations and improves the amount of cations to be exchanged; complex marine chemicals neutralise self-toxic substances secreted by soil microorganisms and plants; alginic acid adsorbs to retain water, improve soil water holding capacity, dilute soil solution salts, and improve the buffering capacity of soil.
