Saudi Arabia plans to develop 6 food standards

   On December 3, 2024 , the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Health issued 6 proposals, intending to formulate 6 food standards , the specific ones are:

  ( 1 ) 4 product standards (smoked fish product standards, salted fish product standards, salad dressing product standards, and pickled, boiled or dried anchovies product standards), the main content includes definitions and terms, product classification, raw and auxiliary materials and food additives requirements (such as the salt content in salted fish products should be between 10% and 14% , the histamine content should not exceed 20mg/100g , the histamine content in smoked fish does not exceed 10mg/100g , the moisture activity of dry smoked fish products does not exceed 0.85 , etc.), sampling and detection and analysis methods, packaging, transportation and storage requirements, labeling regulations (such as the classification name specified in the standards should be marked on the label of salad dressing products, etc.);

  ( 2 ) Two hygiene standards for food production process, specifically low-acid food production, processing and circulation standards, as well as hygiene requirements standards for food enterprises and their employees. The collection period for the above - mentioned draft standards will be until January 3 , 2025 .
