Moldova intends to formulate beer and beer beverage regulations

   On November 12 , 2024 , the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry of Moldova issued a consultative document, intending to formulate the Beer and Beer Beverage Regulations, and the feedback period is as of November 27 , 2024 . Main content:

  ( 1 ) Scope and definition;

  ( 2 ) General requirements. Raw materials allowed (drinking water ; malt; hops and hop products; sugar and syrup; yeast; spices, etc.); vitamins and minerals are not allowed to be added to products with alcohol content exceeding 1.2% ;

  ( 3 ) Product classification. According to the content of beer wort leaching, it is divided into: beer, concentrated beer, special beer, etc.; different varieties can also be distinguished according to heat treatment method, physical treatment method, alcohol content, and fermentation type;

  ( 4 ) Quality and safety requirements. The content of carbon dioxide is at least 0.35% ; the pH range of ale beer is 3.8 to 4.8 ; when packaging alcohol products, it is prohibited to use lead and aluminum materials;

  ( 5 ) Production and processing requirements. Partial replacement of brewing malt with unsprouted cereals shall not exceed 30% ; the content of added sugar or syrup shall not exceed 3% of the mass of the replacement malt ;

  ( 6 ) Label requirements. Products that contain no alcohol are marked with the words "no alcohol", and the alcohol concentration value is expressed as " 0% "; pasteurized beer must have the words "pasteurized"; beer that has not been sterilized with high temperatures is marked with the words "unsanitized" High temperature disinfection”; the beer name and manufacturer name must be marked;

  ( 7 ) Storage requirements. The storage temperature of pasteurized beer is at least 2 to 25 ° C ; the storage temperature of unfiltered beer is at least 0 to 8 ° C ;

  ( 8 ) Import requirements. A certificate of quality must be attached. These certificates are issued by the competent authority of the country of origin to prove that the safety of the product complies with the provisions of national normative regulations; and analysis reports issued by accredited laboratories prove that the product complies with the requirements of basic physical and chemical characteristics stipulated in the regulations.
