2025Year11Month19Day, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan issued550004215 proposal, proposing to revise the food standards for processed tomato. The main revisions are as follows:
Amend the definition of concentrated tomato to stipulate that products added with a small amount of salt or pHregulators for the adjustment of pHor flavor can still be considered as concentrated tomato as long as their soluble solids without salt reach 8%or more;
Revising the processing requirements for tomato food ingredients to allow the use of "concentrated tomatoes" that meet the definition as raw materials for the production of other tomato products(such as tomato sauce);
If concentrated tomatoes are used in raw materials, its amount must be determined by "organ溶剂 extraction and spectrophotometry" and its addition amount needs to reach70mg/kgor more.
The comment period for this proposal ends on December 18, 2025.
