Indonesia issues2025 regulations on food classification and raw materials

   2025Year2Month3Day, TheIndonesian Agency for Drug and Food Control(BPOM) officially issued theRegulation No. 70 of 2025on Food Classification and Change of Plant or Animal Origin Raw Materials. The main points include:

  Adjust the classification standards for dairy products: refine the definition and processing requirements of dairy products, clarify the fat and protein content standards for full-fat, skimmed, and reconstituted dairy products, and add the classification and regulations of plant-based dairy products(such as coconut milk, soy milk);

  Update the standards for fats and oils: clarify the refining process and safety indicators such as acid value and peroxide value for edible vegetable oils(such as palm oil, coconut oil), and add regulatory requirements for cold-pressed oils(cold pressed oils) and plant-based cream(vegetable cream);

  Regulate processed fruits and vegetables: Require labeling of preservative use for ready-to-eat vegetable and fruit products(such as salads, dried fruits).Strengthen the biosafety standards for pickled and fermented products(such as kimchi, tempeh).

  Strengthening food labeling regulations: requiring clear labeling of ingredients and nutritional content for dairy products, plant-based alternatives, etc., and prohibiting misleading marketing;

Transition period arrangement: Products already on the market need to complete compliance adjustments within30 months, and products applying for permits need to update the standards simultaneously.
