Guyana plans to set salt standards

On October 22 ,  2024 , the Guyana National Bureau of Standards ( GNBS ) issued a consultation document to develop salt standards. The feedback period ends on December 30 , 2024 .

The main content includes definitions and terminology, physical, chemical and quality requirements (such as NaCl content not less than 97% , copper content not exceeding 2mg/kg, etc.), production enterprise hygiene regulations, food additive use standards and safety and health requirements (such as arsenic content not exceeding 0.5mg/kg , lead content does not exceed 2mg/kg , etc.), salt labeling requirements (for example, salt labels must be marked with "food grade", "cooking use" or other synonyms), product packaging, transportation and storage requirements, sampling methods and testing standards wait.
