On 21 May 2024, Health Canada issued P-FAA-24-01 amending the list of permitted food additives with other approved uses to propose the removal of brominated vegetable oil (BVO) from the list of food additives.
It is understood that brominated vegetable oil (BVO) is currently permitted for use as a density modifier for flavourings (named flavours) in beverages containing citrus or spruce oils at a maximum level of 15 ppm in beverages containing citrus or spruce oils at the time of consumption. The consultation period ends on 30 July 2024 for this opinion.
