U.S. Launches Comprehensive Review of Nutritional Components in Baby Formula

2025Year5Month13Day, the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the United States Food and Drug Administration(FDA)announced the initiation of the legally required nutrition review process for infant formula, aiming to ensure the safety, reliability, and adequacy of nutrition of infant formula for American families, which will be the first comprehensive review since1998.

Currently, the United States requires that infant formula meet certain minimum and maximum nutritional content requirements.FDAThe agency is seeking public comment to help determine whether existing nutritional content requirements should be revised based on the latest scientific data, including international data, and also to increase testing for heavy metals and other pollutants in infant formula and other foods consumed by children.
