Argentina intends to revise food law

   On December 13, 2024 , the Argentina National Food Safety Commission issued 6 proposals, intending to revise the Argentina Codex Alimentarius ( CAA ). Some revisions include:

  ( 1 ) It is proposed to approve the use of Luohan fruit extract as a sweetener in food, with a maximum dosage of 8g/kg ;

  ( 2 ) New categories of sake product are added to the fermented alcoholic beverage standards, and the physical, chemical and quality requirements of the product are specified, such as the alcohol content is 12%-26% , the methanol content shall not be higher than 300mg/100mL , and products with seasoning substances added should be named "seasoned sake" and so on;

  ( 3 ) Revise and revise the dehydrated maca powder standard, specifically the requirements for new products in the hygiene standards that cannot be detected by salmonella;

  ( 4 ) Revise the hygiene requirements of meat processing enterprises, including stipulating that when dividing meat during cooling, avoid contact with each other or contacting walls and floors, allow meat products of animals of different origin to be placed in the same cooling room, but should avoid contact with each other, etc.;

  ( 5 ) It is planned to approve chia seed concentrate as a new food ingredient and formulate its specifications and standards.

  The feedback period for the above proposals is as of January 12 , 2025 .
