Argentina amends multiple food codes

2025Year6June27, the Argentine Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fishing issued Joint Resolution No.33,34,35/2025, amending several food codes, to be implemented from the date of issuance. Main points:

(2)amend Article235of the labeling requirements for dietary supplements, providing that, in addition to the health attribute statements authorized by the Argentine National Health Authorities (DPS), it is prohibited to make statements about the medicinal and/or curative effects of the food in the labeling or advertising of food disseminated through any printed, audiovisual or digital media (including radio, television, social media, oral or written advertising, etc.); nutritional information must include the name of the nutrient or ingredient of interest, the content of the manufacturer’s recommended amount per unit or daily consumption, etc.; when there is secondary packaging, the information on the primary packaging (foil packaging, ampoules) must at least include the batch, shelf life and brand; in the ingredient list of dietary supplement labels containing vegetables and/or herbal plants listed in this regulation, the common name and scientific name or botanical name of the plant and the specific part of the plant used must be indicated; the method of use of the product must be indicated on the label of all dietary supplements, and the mandatory legends must be written in capital letters and bold type; dietary supplements containing caffeine must also be indicated on the label as "Contains caffeine"; labels of dietary supplements for children must not include images of children or other images or text that may beautify their use or induce improper consumption, etc.

(3)Amendment of Article706 of the definition and specific requirements for the production process of pasta; moisture content of dry pasta ≤13%, moisture content of fresh pasta ≤35%; composition requirements: vegetables and drinking water and salt may be added, label requirements: the product name must include the name of the vegetable; the cholesterol content of egg pasta must not be less than0.04%, the product name is egg pasta; the name of the added substance + pasta (e.g. spinach dry egg pasta); the ingredients and additives of the dough and filling in the ingredient list of pasta must be declared separately, each part in descending order; the product limit of pollutant requirements.
